Case 17: Turnabout Terror
[The morning immediately after her horrifying experience with the Coral Cannibal, Kay wakes up in her own bed with a start. Her heart racing, she flails about in a panic, knocking the phone off the receiver. The whole of Mayfield is treated to the very loud and utterly terrified scream of a young 17 year old thief.]
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
[There is the sound of heavy, panicked breathing along with the rustling of bedsheets as Kay tries to make sense of her surroundings while trying to remember just what happened the previous night. She's talking to herself, barely aware that she's narrating her own thoughts out loud.]
"W-what was that...? Sharp pain... and... then. Just darkness. And blood... blood everywhere..."
[Huddles underneath her sheets, pulling them tightly around her so that nothing but her face is showing. She's like a small child convinced of the magic power of her blanket, as if it will somehow protect her against the monsters that lurk in the shadows just out of sight. And she just stays like that, rocking back and forth and quietly murmuring to herself, still totally unaware that the phone is off the hook.]

"It was so scary..."
no subject
[ He squeezes her close again. ]
no subject
"It's not your fault..."
no subject
[ He lets out a shaky breath. This was about her, this wasn't about him. But he couldn't help but blame himself. ]
no subject
"N-no... it's okay. It was already here by the time I got home. I... I'm not sure there was really much anyone could've done."
[Pauses awkwardly.]
"I talked to Tsuna earlier. He thinks I should stay with you for a few days."
no subject
I would feel a lot better if you did.
[ He offers her a small smile, but it's a little contorted. ]
no subject
"I think it's a good idea too."
no subject
[ He reaches up and brushes her hair away from her face before coming his fingers through it. ]
no subject
"Yeah... I'll get some clothes and things together."
no subject
He still feels awful though, but he's trying to push through it. There was just...so much death. ]
Are you... How are you feeling?
no subject
"I'm okay... physically. Just... really scared."
no subject
[ He rubs his neck a bit. Normally he'd just laugh it off, shake it off like water, but this? This was different.
He had seen people die before, but not like this. ]
But I'll protect you next time. I promise.
no subject
[She nodded, smiling warmly back at him.]
"...Sorry to keep worrying you like this."
no subject
Hey, don't worry about it.
no subject
"Okay... let's go."
no subject
Yeah. I can let you take my bed if you want.
no subject
"D-do you think I could sleep next to you? ...Would your family mind?"
no subject
They probably won't mind. So yeah, you can...
no subject
"Okay."
[Turns pretty pink herself.]
"It's... just because I'm still scared. I didn't mean for it to sound weird or anything..."
no subject
[ He laughs quietly, still blushing. He had never...been in the same bed with a girl before. Always time for trying uh. New things, right? ]
Really.

"Good."
no subject
Maybe I should clean my room...
